Synopsis

The documentary film, The World According to My Dad, captures the joint dream of a material physicist and his artist daughter for an effective solution to save the planet. Together, and with humour, they venture into many different platforms where no one is expecting or welcoming of them. On their journey, they try to navigate their way not only around the world of climate politics and the powers behind it but also with each other.

Marta Kovářová was born into a family of scientists. While studying at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Faculty of Science in Brno, she completed internships at FAMU, Prague and the Icelandic Academy of Arts. There she started with her short experimental video poetry (films Iceland! On the Road, or Můžeš tady bydlet, ale nedělej pavučiny). During her internship at the VIZAGE studio, together with Tomáš Doležal, she produced a number of gallery, environmental and music spots, including the short documentary Czechin' London (2011). She has always been interested in the mediation of science and interdisciplinarity. In collaboration with her father, Jiří Svoboda, and producer Jan Bodnár, she completed four years of work on her first original feature-length documentary, The World According to My Dad (2023).
