Be Somebody

Synopsis

Together with his family, Wiktor moves into a recently bought flat, which turns out to have belonged to Lech Wałęsa, a symbol of freedom and a legend as a simple electrician who became Poland’s president many years ago. Today, numerous groups of people brought by curiosity and sympathy for the politician appear under the windows of the apartment located in an ordinary, grey housing estate built under communism. Can the new residents take advantage of it in any way? Wiktor’s wife comes up with a perverse idea and he soon learns what it is like to ‘be somebody’.

The film participated in the Warsaw Film Festival 2023 and the Krakow Film Festival 2023.

Michal Toczek is a film directing student in the Polish National Film School in Lodz. Director of award-winning short features and documentaries. His documentary debut Strawberry Boys was awarded at the Krakow Film Festival (2019), among others. Laureate of the Papaya Young Directors contest - one of the most prestigious competitions for young creators in Poland.
