History

The International Film Festival ELBE DOCK focuses on debutant filmmakers in several competitive sections and brings together the best documentaries and fiction films from world film festivals. As a part of its programme in Dresden ELBE DOCK draws attention to Czech film scene while at the same time showcasing the finest contemporary German films. The festival also offers a special educational program for students including a diverse range of workshops and masterclasses featuring experts of the field. In its rich accompanying program ELBE DOCK seeks to involve residents and local artists, open up forgotten or unconventional spaces and share the documentary scene with the wide public. At the same time, ELBE DOCK introduces the most original first and second films of emerging filmmakers who bring a breath of fresh air into the world of contemporary fiction film.

History of ELBE DOCK festival
and Pavel Koutecký Award

Pavel Koutecký Award was founded in 2007 as an award given to the most original Czech documentary film of the year. The award formed the foundations of the International Documentary Film Festival ELBE DOCK that was established in 2018 in Ústí nad Labem and Dresden. Since 2018, both the festival and the award recognize not only Czech Documentary and Fiction Film Debuts but also newly released Central European films.
