Frontier opens up the question of professional and human values. When a group of illegal migrants tries to cross the border, the differing opinions of customs officials rise to the surface. Who is ‘one of us’, who is ‘one of them’, who is good and who is evil? Everyone has to follow the rules and everyone searches for the limits of their own decision.
Damián Vondrášek studies in Bohdan Sláma’s workshop at the Department of Directing at FAMU, Prague. His first student film Spolu (Together, 2015) won the Famufest Award for Best Direction. Imprisoned (2016) was selected for the San Sebastian IFF, screened at the Karlovy Vary IFF in the Future Frames section and nominated for the Magnesia Award for Best Student Film at the Czech Lions. His latest film, Frontier, was co-produced of Background Films, FAMU and Czech Television; it was premiered at the Trieste Film Festival in January 2020, where it won the Jury Award.
